Borruso’s – Rondebosch has been open since May 1994 and continues to draw the crowds who are attracted by sublime pizzas, consistently good pasta, and value for money prices. Owners, Deon and Janine, continue with the traditional art of pizza making by producing thin, deliciously crisp bases, which are guaranteed to impress the fussiest of pizza-lovers. It is rumoured that Borruso’s makes the best pizzas this side of the Limpopo.
The decor is warm and inviting with cheerful colour-washed walls, cosy facebrick and rustic wooden furniture and the overall effect is pleasing to the eye. When it comes to choosing from the menu the choice is a difficult one, so why not be a little patriotic and choose the “No Name Brand” consisting of Spinach, Bacon, Feta and Garlic, the colours of which represent those of the Italian flag. Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, why not try one of these specials: Bacon, Banana, Blue cheese and Avo; Brie, Fig and Bacon or a Salmon, Feta and Fresh Tomato.
If it’s pasta you are after, let the Pasta Chef prepare you a mouth-watering dish of Mafiosa – a delicious combination of tomato, bacon, liver, olives, chilli and garlic. Vegetarians are well catered for with several meat-free dishes to choose from including the Greek Pizza and Rasta Focaccia or how about trying their Roast Veg lasagne. There is also a blackboard offering daily specials and desserts which are not listed on the menu. Last orders are taken at 10:30pm so there’s plenty of time to drop by for a pizza after a trip to the movies – what better way to end an enjoyable evening!
